Our birding tour of the Catazaja Lagoon, 28 kilometers north of Palenque, is simply the best you can get in the area until you reach Tikal, in neighboring Guatemala... You need to reserve your birding guide well in advance and the suggested time for this tour is leaving Palenque at 4:30 a.m. or at 2:00 p.m. Our birding tour, which takes 3 and a half hours to complete, includes the following:

  • Bird observation in the Catazaja Lagoon (a Ramsar declared wetland preserve), one of the best possible birding opportunities in the region, with a professional birding guide. This tour includes ground transportation to the lagoon from your hotel in Palenque and is on board a boat, to be able to get to different areas around the lagoon and to see different roosting and nesting sites. We will operate this tour starting with one person, but we recommend a minimum of 4 people.

All of our tours operate daily except for this special tour, available only upon request. A special list of bird species observed at Palenque, prepared by Ecotourism & Adventure Specialist, is available for people participating on this tour.
