While there are no specific regulations at Palenque all the archaeological sites in Mexico share the same regulations. At present time we are waiting for a special permit from the park's administration to publish these rules... Here is a list of recommendations and information on the park to make your visit pleasant and efficient...

1. Palenque National Park is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., every day of the week, 365 days a year.

2. There are 2 entrance fees to be paid, one at the park's main gate, charged by the Council of Protected Areas and another, at the archaeological park's entrance, charged by the INAH or Institute of Antrhopology and History... The first fee is MX$ 15 while the second is MX$ 45. Altogether equivalent to about US$ 6.50

3. There is no additional fee to enter the museum but you need to pay an additional filming permit at the park's administration if you have a video camera. Professional films are strictly prohibited without the appropriate permits obtained only in Mexico City.

4. The park entrance tickest are valid for the day on which they are purchased only.

5. Respect and observe the park’s authorities instructions.

6. Smoking is NOT allowed anywhere within the park, visitors are strongly advised to take this into consideration or they will be advised to put their cigarettes out by the park guards. It is forbidden to throw away any burning matches or cigarettes in the park.You may not pay tips to any park guards, it will be considered bribing, which is considered a serious offense at the Palenque Park.

7. Visitors are advised to follow our advise while we can publich the park’s rules.

8. Walk within the designated paths only and follow the signs, use these for orientation and stay off the restricted areas for your own personal security.

9. You may climb on some of the monuments, however, some are strictly off limits.

10. Do not climb on the temples if you feel unfit and watch your step at all times, specially on wet stones and logs. You are in the park at your own risk.

11. If you climb temples and monuments, make sure you contribute to the safeguarding of its architectural features: don’t destroy the monuments.

12. When climbing temples, do not make any new trails to climb up and keep strictly on the trodden pathways and the main stairways: do not trample over the monuments.

13. Do not cut down any of the vegetation, cutting objects are strictly prohibited within park premises.

14. Do not throw any trash in the park.

15. Do not feed jungle animals.

16. Do not carve any graffiti, touch, lean or sit on any archaeological monument.

17. Do not make any rubbings of the sculptures of Palenque.

18. Do not turn over any stones or logs for your personal security and for preservation purposes.

19. Do not collect any animal, insect or plant specimen.

20. For any scientific purposes, the appropriate paperwork is necessary for the collection of specimens, photography and research.

21. Do not film for commercial purposes without the appropriate paperwork.  Filming at any archaeological zone or monument requires a special permit, issued only by the Institute of Archaeology and History I.N.A.H. ( Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia ) in Mexico City.

22. Making fires of any kind is prohibited, even for ceremonial purposes. Any religious or esotheric ceremonies are strictly prohiibitted in Mexico. You may try to obtain a special permit, which would be issued only by the Institute of Archaeology and History I.N.A.H. ( Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia ) in Mexico City.

23. Use the restrooms provided by the park, which are found in the rest areas adjacent to the monuments.

24. Within the park, there is a speed limit that needs to be observed, of 30- 40 kilometers per hour.

25. Do not blow your horn while driving into the park, and do not play any hi-fi within the ruins.

26. Do not hunt adjacent to the park's area of influence; firearms are strictly forbidden within park premises. Do not carry any firearms in Chiapas, unless you carry a permit from the pertinent authorities in Mexico, even if it is for sports.

27. To continue on to Guatemala, it is necessary to have your passport stamped at the immigration facility about 10 kilometers from town, at the airport or at Frontera Corozal, but you need to pay taxes you can only pay at a bank in Palenque. Make sure you have paid these in advance so as not to have any trouble leaving Mexico.

28. By no means are visitors allowed to be within the ruins after hours.

29. No more permits are issued to visit Pacal's tomb, admittance for scientific purposes may be arranged or discussed only with the park’s director.
